Take action to shut down Red Hill

Fuel in our water is beyond unacceptable. This should have never happened and could have been avoided.

We have been warning of this for years. Instead of actually protecting our water, the Navy’s leaders have constantly refuted studies (their own studies) and said we were spreading misinformation.

This events of this week are the last straw. The Navy cannot be trusted with our most precious resource, our water. Navy leaders have failed time and time again to prove they have control at Red Hill--there is no other option the tanks have got to go.

This is an all hands on deck situation and we need to demand immediate action from all levels of our decision makers, leaders and lawmakers. Here are two actions you can take:

Write directly to the White House and Pentagon

Because local Navy leaders have not demonstrated the kind of leadership needed in this situation, we are recommending that folks write directly to the White House and Pentagon. Below you will find letter templates addressed to three different recipients. If you have the time and ability, please write to all three recipients, they need to hear from all of us.

You can use these templates in whichever way is easiest for you—use this document to type up your letter, print it out and mail it, or use it as a starting point and hand write your letter on any paper, card, postcard, stationery you can get your hands on and mail it.

Contact Congress

Congress has the power and means to secure funds to shut down Red Hill and relocate the fuel. They are more activated on this issue than ever so let’s make sure they hear from you! The button below will supply you with all the information you need to contact them, including a sample email and talking points.

Let us know if you have any questions, you can contact us at hawaii.chapter@sierraclub.org or 808-538-6616. After you mail your letter, feel free to drop us a note and let us know as well!
