Free Native Plants in Hauʻula

Join the Sierra Club of Hawaiʻi, the Oʻahu Invasive Species Committee, the Conservation Council for Hawaiʻi, and Hui o Hauʻula on Saturday, May 10 at 9am at the Hauʻula Community Center for our next free native plant giveaway—just in time for Mother’s Day, graduation season, or to brighten up your own yard or home with plants that nourish ʻāina and ourselves!

With the help of Hui Kū Maoli Ola, we will be giving away native plant species that are known to thrive in Hauʻula’s climate on a first come, first served basis. Plants are limited to two plants per household.

We’ll also have our super volunteer tree experts on hand to help you pick the right plant for you—whether you live in an apartment, rental or house with open space—and give you tips to help your new plant thrive.

The Oʻahu Invasive Species Committee will be on-site to distribute little fire ant detection kits for you to test your home and answer questions you may have about little fire ants and other invasive species affecting our communities. All plants will be tested for little fire ants prior to the event.

This is a great chance to connect with community and take home something meaningful, resilient, and rooted.

We can’t wait to share our love of native plants with you—see you on Saturday, May 10!

When: Saturday, May 10, 9am-12pm (or until we run out of plants). Add it to your calendar using this link!

Where: Hauʻula Community Center, 54-010 Kukuna Rd, Hauula, HI 96717

Who: Any and everyone interested in plants, all levels of green thumbs welcome!

✨ BONUS: Everyone that comes by to grab a plant will be entered to win Patagonia and Sierra Club of Hawaiʻi gear!

This event was made possible with the support of the Koʻolau Pilina Fund and is part of the Sierra Club of Hawaiʻi’s Virtual Tree Planting Program.
