  • Terminal Failure: Freeport LNG’s Chronic Problems, Pollution and Safety Violations by Oilfield Witness. A deep dive into Freeport LNG’s compliance practices documents nearly 800 permit deviations at the JERA-owned facility since 2019, as well as the release of nearly 1,500 pounds of benzene in just one year. Fines amounting to just under $610,000, or 0.024% (two hundredths of one percent) of the facility’s annual revenue have not deterred the facility’s noncompliance with air pollution laws.   • 100% Renewable or Fossil Fuel Lock-in? WHY LNG IS A CRITICAL MISSTEP by GridLAB. Explains how the investments required for LNG infrastructure establishes a ‘lock-in’ effect, generating perverse incentives to delay renewable deployment. This paper proposes that a direct reallocation of capital toward renewable energy and storage offers a more financially robust and risk-averse pathway to the state’s electricity affordability and energy security goals. (December ʻ25).

  • Methane Tracking in Tokyo Bay by Oilfield Witness. In February 2025, Oilfield Witness experts traveled to Japan for an unprecedented field investigation to track methane emissions from LNG import terminals and gas plants along Tokyo Bay. This report describes and provides links to the video footage of significant methane emissions from the Futtsu LNG import terminal, Futtsu gas power plant, and the Goi LNG power plant. (July ʻ25).
