SIERRA CLUB ENDORSES MARK TAKAI

HONOLULU, HI – Today, the Hawaii Chapter of the Sierra Club announced its endorsement of Mark Takai in the election for Hawaii’s 1st Congressional District.

“Mark Takai has been strong champion for energy independence,” said Scott Glenn, Sierra Club of Hawaii Chair. “We're confident he will continue this fight in Congress. Our priority is to end dirty fuel use and convert our economy to a more secure, renewable energy future.”

When Takai was deployed as a part of Operation Iraqi Freedom, he saw first-hand how America’s reliance of oil was creating international conflict while making people sick at home. Meanwhile, little was being done at home to reduce America’s need for oil. When he arrived back in the United States, he became dedicated to reducing our dependence on foreign fuels and instead invest in American ingenuity to find cleaner more reliable solutions to power our vehicles, homes, and businesses.

“Mark Takai knows how critical the environment is to Hawaii culture and way of life and the importance of protecting it from climate disruption,” said Steve Montgomery, Sierra Club of Hawaii Political Co-Chair. “Takai is not only a strong environmental leader, but with the Sierra Club's support he can build the momentum to win this race."

“Takai's conscientious public service, willingness to listen and responsiveness to the economic concerns of working families will make him an excellent congressman for all of Hawaii,” said Glenn.
