Malama i ka Honua goes digital!

Big news! The quarterly Mālama i ka Honua newsletter will now be digital only—there will no longer be a print edition.

Here is what you can expect with this change:

  • Due-paying members will receive their quarterly Mālama i ka Honua newsletter straight to their email inbox on the first week of the new quarter (January, April, July and October), starting in July 2020.

  • The digital newsletter will come from the sender "Mālama i ka Honua". The newsletter will continue to include articles featuring the hard work of volunteers and staff, Group reports and outings schedules (when outings reconvene) and more.

  • Members that received the printed newsletter should also receive a postcard in the mail, notifying them of the change with additional information and links to bookmark. Keep this postcard on your fridge or next to your desk to remember where to find important information!

  • Volunteers and supporters (non-due-paying) that did not receive the newsletter in the mail will be able to view the newsletter online for free at sierraclubhawaii.org/malama.

One thing due-paying members can do to ensure that you receive your newsletter via email is to update your email contact information here. Fill out the email subscription form and it will update your email address in our database.

This was no easy choice, as we've been printing quarterly newsletters for 45 years but we believe this is the right choice for our organization at this time. Members, supporters, volunteers and staff have collectively shared countless outdoor experiences, poured our hearts and souls into articles to inspire our members to take action, communicated endorsements of political candidates and so much more over the years.

Going digital provides a lot of benefits like updates to advocacy campaigns as they progress over the quarter, live changes to outings schedules, using new media like videos and photos in each issue and making it easier to share content with our networks. Most importantly, going digital aligns with our climate goals by lessening our carbon footprint and using less paper, while saving us much needed funds in these uncertain and challenging times.

Thank you to all those who have contributed to the newsletter over the last 45 years and thank you to our members and dedicated readership for sticking with us through this important transition. If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact us via email here or by phone at 808-538-6616.
