Gerbode Foundation Invests in Community Stewardship of Our ʻĀina and Wai

Hulō! The Gerbode Foundation has chosen to invest in the Sierra Club of Hawaiʻi’s work tackling some of the biggest issues facing our ʻāina and wai today!

The Sierra Club of Hawaiʻi is grateful and proud to be included in the Foundation’s vision to “heal the relationship between people and the earth,” including through community efforts in addressing conservation, preservation, and quality of life concerns relating to air, water, oceans, and open spaces; elevating issues of environmental justice; and strategic community planning.

We look forward to using the Foundation’s generous, unrestricted grant to advance efforts organizing communities to heal Oʻahu’s jet-fuel contaminated aquifer, and protect and uphold the public trust in water throughout the islands; engage in the all-hands-on-deck fight against invasive pests like the coconut rhinoceros beetle and little fire ant; advance our energy security and independence; and ensure our land use, environmental review, and other critical laws are upheld in major upcoming decisions, including but not limited to the proposed continuation of live-fire military training and other activities on Oʻahu and Hawaiʻi Island.

Mahalo nui loa to the Gerbode Foundation, and to all of our generous donors and supporters who made and make all of our accomplishments possible.
