Aloha,
Every day, I am grateful I get to be part of something special.
Through the Sierra Club of Hawaiʻi, I’m part of a strong community of people who choose every day to step up and deliver the results that Hawaiʻi needs. Thank you for being another link in this chain that brings us together.
Every day, Hawaiʻi’s communities bear the burden of climate consequences, which is why we’re standing together to confront the climate crisis by:
Safeguarding our precious freshwater resources from pollution, greed, and waste caused by antiquated wastewater systems, corporate impunity, military negligence, and more;
Ensuring equity and justice in our clean energy future by prioritizing community needs and desires early in decision-making processes; and
Protecting our ʻāina, people, and governance from corporate exploitation and powerful special interests through the defense of our hard-fought laws.
The Sierra Club, with decades of experience, fights big polluters with people power—and wins. We know that the power of collective action isn’t just a way to make a difference, it’s the only way. Our opponents attempt to buy influence in boardrooms, legislatures, offices, and courtrooms, imposing their will on our islands. But together, we can create a Hawaiʻi where clean air, clean water, and beautiful wild places are accessible to all.
Together, we can hold those with power accountable to the will of the people. Give today a gift today to fuel the fight.
You’ve heard me and others say it before: to change everything, we need everyone. As our opponents continue to push dirty, dangerous and destructive projects onto us, we must continue to grow our movement. While global inaction turns into local consequences, it’s time to engage as many people as possible in our work.
That’s why we’re investing more than ever before in finding, nurturing, and mentoring new leaders. We know that change starts at home and that through our grassroots power, we will create significant impact. More environmental leaders means that there’s that much more that can be added to the Sierra Club of Hawaiʻi’s long legacy of positive change.
Now, as the newly elected Chapter Executive Committee Chair, I am excited and humbled to be part of this legacy. Together, we will harness the power of our people and continue to grow the movement in our islands toward equitable climate resilience grounded in Native Hawaiian science, practices, and values.
No action is small and no donation is insignificant. Your support, whether through action or contribution, is appreciated and part of a decades-long chain reaction of regular people standing for what’s right.
The only indelible mark we will leave is on the hearts and minds of Hawaiʻi’s communities as we secure a liveable and resilient future. And that’s why what we do is so special.
Thank you for your support,
Letani Peltier
Executive Committee Chair
Sierra Club of Hawaiʻi
P.S. Sierra Club of Hawaiʻi doesn’t just make change, we make changemakers. When you give to the Hawaiʻi Chapter, 100 percent of your donation stays in our islands so more and more folks can take their place in the movement.
