#OlaIKaWai Free Tree Giveaway on Sat, March 26

Mark your calendars for a special Red Hill themed free plant drive on March 26 at Moanalua Middle School!

Hawaiʻi’s tree cover and native forests are vital to our islands’ drinking water security. The native plants and trees that make up Hawaiʻi’s native forests capture rain and cloud moisture, absorbing water that then seeps into the ground and replenishes the groundwater aquifers that supply Hawaiʻi’s drinking water.

But it takes approximately 25 years for rainfall to reach the aquifer—the actions we take today have a huge impact on the drinking water future of the next generation. With the recent fuel contamination of one of Oʻahu’s main drinking water resources, Oʻahu needs all the help it can get on capturing freshwater and recharging its aquifers.

That’s where you come in! Come on by Moanalua Middle School on Saturday, March 26 starting at 9:30am to grab a FREE native tree or plant for your home and help us capture more rain and moisture!

Our tree experts will be there to help you pick the right plant for your space as well as staff and volunteers knowledgeable about the Red Hill issue to talk about the latest updates and actions you can take to help #shutdownredhill and #drainthetanks.

Our last event was very successful and we ran out of trees in the first 30 minutes. We have more plants available this time but make sure to come early, plants will be first come first serve, limit two plants per household. Please also be sure to wear your masks.
