Environmentalists, military families say Red Hill shutdown overdue but questions remain

TL;DR - Congressional leaders hailed the Navy’s decision to permanently shut down the Red Hill fuel tanks as “historic,” but environmental groups said they still have a lot of concerns about the Navy’s clean-up plan and ongoing support for impacted communities.

“Make no mistake, it’s over. This is a win. The decision has been made. Red Hill will be de-fueled and shut down. What a huge day for Hawaii,” said U.S. Sen. Brian Schatz, D-Hawaii.
