Navy waives right to contest Emergency Order to shutdown Red Hill

TL;DR - The US Navy is waiving its right to contest Hawaii’s emergency order to shut down the Red Hill Bulk Fuel Storage Facility. The decision comes a little more than two weeks after the US government dropped its appeal against the order.

“The Navy’s decision means that work to defuel and close the Red Hill facility can begin without further delay,” said Kathleen Ho, Deputy Director of Environmental Health.

The order from the Hawaii State Department of Health (DOH) specifies a timeline of 30 days for defueling to be completed, after the Navy submits its plan. The Navy had previously floated a timeline closer to a year to complete the process.
