Join the Oʻahu Water Protectors tomorrow for a die-in and sign waving
Join our friends, the Oʻahu Water Protectors, tomorrow at 3pm for a die-in demonstration and sign waving at the capitol building.
Their message:
“The Navy proves that it does not work to protect us and our water, time and time again. The existence of the Red Hill fuel tanks is an infliction of gross negligence on ʻāina, wai, and our lives. Clean water is genuine security and a human right. Our water and our people are getting poisoned, and the only acceptable solution is to shut down Red Hill immediately and entirely. We are the only ones who can keep us safe.”
In case you missed it: The Navy has finally confirmed that they contaminated the groundwater aquifer that our island’s homes, hospitals, schools, businesses, and environment rely upon with petroleum fuel. Unless the tanks are shut down, our water will continue to be at a risk of total catastrophic loss from the 80-year-old Red Hill Bulk Fuel Storage Facility. The Board of Water Supply has already shut down its nearby well in Hālawa (less than one mile away from the facility) as a precautionary measure, meaning that voluntary and potential mandatory water conservation actions will already need to be pursued. And yet the Navy continues to challenge the Governor’s order to shut down and defuel the facility which is the only sure way to protect our water, our environment, our economy, and our very way of life.
If you haven’t already, help us make sure the Navy does not defy the law while contaminating our water and poisoning thousands of people:
Write a letter to the Secretary of Defense Lloyd J. Austin III demanding that the Navy comply with the emergency order and immediately shut down Red Hill to protect Oʻahu’s water and public health.
Post this picture on your Instagram and Facebook and tag Obama @barackobama who was raised on water from the impacted aquifer and promoted Sec. Austin to CENTCOM Commander, & a “Hawaiʻi celebrity” (think: Jason Momoa, Oprah, etc) to get their attention, spread the word and join us in demanding action.
