Wayne’s World: Taxation Without Representation? Support What Really Matters to Us All!
Unhappy with how your tax dollars are being spent? We have good news - you can reduce your tax liability, while supporting the ever-more important work needed to create a hopeful future for ourselves and our future generations, by making a tax-deductible contribution to the Sierra Club of Hawaiʻi today!
All kidding aside, while donations to the Sierra Club of Hawaiʻi in support of our legislative work are non-tax deductible, tax-deductible contributions via our c(3) Sierra Club Foundation fiscal sponsor will also stay in our islands, and support critical work from public education, to litigation, to organizing around administrative actions that are truly where the “rubber hits the road” in policy implementation.
This month’s Mālama is a showcase of just some of the things that we have been doing over these last three months, and that your tax-deductible contributions will directly support.
This includes a slew of developments in the still-unfolding Red Hill catastrophe, from preventing the Fuel Tank Advisory Committee from sliding back to its bad habits of complacency and deference to Navy assertions, to recruiting more wai protectors in the generational fight to heal and defend our most precious resource, to protecting Camp Smith residents and workers from another potential water crisis, to monitoring and supporting the many ongoing efforts to address the harms to people and ʻāina still suffering from the Red Hill fuel spills.
This also includes our work to uphold the public trust in both wai and ʻāina, via precedent-setting litigation on water rights and due process, and advocacy at the Board of Agriculture and Biosecurity to establish historic rules that can help keep Molokaʻi free from the devastating impacts of the coconut rhinoceros beetle.
Your tax-deductible contributions can also support our ongoing education, advocacy, and organizing around the Governor’s ill-informed efforts to strike deals with another fossil fuel giant and with the Department of War, both of which threaten major impacts to Hawaiʻi’s environment, economy, culture, public health, resilience, democracy, and dignity.
To be clear - your support of our legislative work, while not tax-deductible, is absolutely critical to defend against rollbacks of key protections for our water security, food security, cultural practices, and social fabric, and to ensure our legislative policies align with our pressing need to give our keiki their best chance at a livable, hopeful future.
However, with so many fronts in the fight for our islands, and our planet - and with government actions in many cases only worsening our situation - you can still make a huge difference with contributions that can also benefit your tax return.
Tax deductible donations can be made online using this special link here, or via check made out to the “Sierra Club Foundation” with “Hawaiʻi Chapter” in the memo line, and mailed to our maling address: P.O. Box 2577, Honolulu, HI 96803.
Whether it is submitting testimony, sharing our action alerts, or contributing financially to our Chapter, the Sierra Club of Hawaiʻi could not have accomplished all that we have, without your support - mahalo nui for all that you do!
