2020 Volunteer of the Year: Tenaiya Brookfield

By Lauren Ballesteros-Watanabe, Chapter Organizer

Within a few months of Tenaiya joining the Oʻahu Group Executive Committee, she became our Political Committee Chair and hosted our first ever Mayoral Debate. Both can be attributed to Tenaiya's tenacity, fearlessness, and professionalism. She is a woman of action that is never afraid to ask questions, speak truth to power, and has a kind demeanor with a wicked sense of humor. I love working with her even when she is challenging us to level up. Over the past year, I have come to know and appreciate the vision that she has in truly seeing the value that our advocacy brings to the community.

Tenaiya is an Oʻahu born island girl with a global perspective on environmental sustainability through her extensive corporate leadership experience in Southeast Asia. If you follow her on Instagram, you will see that she devotes her platform to intersectional environmental justice. There are endless posts and stories full of critical information on issues from wildlife protection, reducing waste, native rights & policing, government spending, to civics, and more. She's kind of a wizard of the Instagram world.

Her skills add serious value to the environmental justice movement, join us in a round of applause for our volunteer of the year! Looking forward to several more!
