DOH Red Hill Open House, 6/5 + FTAC, 6/6

Update 6/3:

Unfortunately some key wires got crossed and we will no longer be having family friendly activities and talkstory outside the Department of Health's Red Hill Open House on Monday. But we will have a table inside with lots of good information and good people to connect with. We will also still have pizza to share while supplies last. So please come by, have a slice, and get the download on where things are at on Red Hill.

You are encouraged to join us for food and fun to (re)fill your cup outside the Hawaiʻi Department of Health’s Red Hill Open House this coming Monday, June 5 from 3-7pm at Moanalua High School Cafeteria.

After you check out the open house inside (think: science fair), come outside to join the Oʻahu Water Protectors, Shut Down Red Hill Coalition, Sierra Club of Hawaiʻi, and allies for a fun, relaxing, and safe space for Red Hill activists, community members, affected families, and friends to gather, enjoy food and company, commiserate, and replenish our collective mental, emotional, and physical energies as we move into the summer.

Join us for pizza, family friendly arts and crafts, and to talk story. Please bring your own water bottles and mess kits. We will also have supplies on hand as well. If you have Red Hill gear please wear it in solidarity with fellow water drinkers.

Inside the open house you will find booths hosted by various agencies including the Joint Task Force Red Hill, US Navy, Environmental Protection Agency, Hawaiʻi Department of Health, Honolulu Board of Water Supply, as well as community organizations, Oʻahu Water Protectors and the Sierra Club of Hawaiʻi. You will be able to engage with the agencies and organizations, ask them questions and hear updates.

Fuel Tank Advisory Meeting - Tuesday, June 6

The Hawaiʻi Department of Health will also be hosting the Fuel Tank Advisory Committee meeting the next day, Tuesday, June 6 at the Moanalua High School Performing Arts Center from 1-5pm. We encourage you to provide verbal testimony in-person or by Zoom, as well as to submit written comments. Talking points, sample written testimony, and instructions can be found here. If you plan to join by Zoom, be sure to register and feel free to use one of these Zoom backgrounds to show your support for shutting down Red Hill once and for all. Agenda and details on Zoom participation here.

The Fuel Tank Advisory Committee was established in response to the 2014 Red Hill fuel leak by the legislature to investigate the leak and what measures needed to be taken to ensure the facility was “safe” to operate. At the June 6 meeting, updates will be provided on defueling, closure plan, remediation, AFFF release and response, and public engagement opportunities by the Joint Task Force Red Hill, US Navy, EPA, and Hawaiʻi Health Department.

We hope to see you for some fun and Red Hill action on Monday, June 5 at Moanalua High School! Please share this event with your friends and family (social graphic here) and don’t forget to wear your Red Hill gear and bring your water bottle and mess kit.
