Applications open for HAPA’s Kuleana Academy 7th cohort

Hawai‘i Alliance for Progressive Action (HAPA) is now accepting applications for the 7th Kuleana Academy cohort, a three month political leadership and non-partisan candidate training program for emerging leaders in Hawai‘i.

Over 50% of alumni have run for office on a State or County level. Twelve alumni are serving in elected office. Five graduates are currently serving as State House Representatives, four are serving on Maui County Council, two on Hawaiʻi County Council and one is serving on the Honolulu City and County Council. Two alums are serving on boards or commissions. Several graduates who are presently serving on Oʻahu's neighborhood boards. Many others are serving their communities in a variety of capacities - through policy advocacy, community organizing, and much more.

This will cover personal and political leadership development, public speaking, media training, critical community organizing skills, the basics of the legislative process and the nuts and bolts of running a campaign.

  2. Hawaiʻi-wide Issues Education

    • HAPA’s Education Alliance Partners will host these sessions in their areas of expertise on issues that affect county, state and federal policy. Most importantly, the program will explore the interconnection of all these issues.

  3. Community Based Hands On Experience
