Tax fairness is a pathway to economic recovery

By Hawaiʻi Tax Fairness Coalition | Reading time: 2 min

As part of the Hawaiʻi Tax Fairness coalition, we will be supporting the efforts to pass tax fairness legislation that can help our state avoid devastating cuts to the public services.

Essential programs that Hawai‘i’s families need during this pandemic crisis—such as child care assistance, social services and public schools—are facing harmful spending cuts in 2021. In his State of the State, Governor Ige stated that he’s planning to propose a whopping $350 million in program cuts!

Meanwhile, the stock market, high-end real estate, and wealthy Hawai‘i residents are doing better than ever before.

The costs of a pandemic should not fall on the backs of Hawai‘i’s most vulnerable families. Instead, we need the most fortunate among us—profitable corporations and wealthy individuals—to pay a little more to keep Hawaiʻi going strong during this pandemic.

You can help:

Please sign our petition calling on our state lawmakers to pass tax fairness bills to raise hundreds of millions of dollars in badly-needed revenue, avoid damaging cuts, and restore Hawaiʻi’s economy to full strength as quickly as possible.

Then use this easy tool to email your legislators and tell them your concerns and what you want them to do, or write your own message (even better).
