Email Agriculture Department Chair Hurd urging the department to advance the rule amendments to the Small Business Regulatory Review Board. Act now at bit.ly/sch-doa1124.
After nearly two years of delay, the Hawaiʻi Board of Agriculture has finally voted to adopt rule amendments granting the Agriculture Department authority to combat invasive pests like little fire ants, coconut rhinoceros beetles, and coqui frogs. These amendments would prevent the sale of infested plants and products, with just a few steps left before they become law—review by the Small Business Regulatory Review Board and approval by the Governor.
This progress is thanks to the persistence of community advocates who have pushed for action despite department delays and resistance to regulating the nursery industry. Community pressure must continue to ensure the rule amendments reach the Small Business Regulatory Review Board's November 21 meeting and move forward without further delay.
