As Hurricane Lala impacts our islands, communities across Hawaiʻi are mobilizing to support one another. Countless organizations, businesses, and individuals have banded together to provide relief. To make it easier to find help or offer it, we've compiled this short summary of vetted resources—including ways to donate, stay informed, and access assistance programs. Hawaiʻi County: 

  • Hawaiʻi County Civil Defense Agency: This is the primary source for official local updates, especially regarding road closures, shelter openings, and safety information for Hawaiʻi Island. You already link to their damage report form, but consider highlighting them as a central hub for island-specific news

Direct Relief + Donations

Hawaiʻi Mutual Aid Network has compiled the Hurricane Lala Financial Support List of community vetted  individuals, businesses, farms, and ʻohana who are in need of direct support via venmo or GoFundMe. See the list here. To be added to the Hurricane Lala Financial Support List, submit a request here

Lāhui Foundation: Provides food, water and assistance to affected individuals and families. Follow their Instagram for updates on supply distributions, hot meals, and other sources of relief across the islands. Donate here.

Representative Kapela (*Hawai‘i Island): Follow her Instagram page for up-to-date needs, including for both volunteers and donations, and for updates on resource hubs and relief opportunities. 

Vibrant Hawaiʻi (Hawaiʻi Island): Offers water distribution and regular updates on recovery resources on Hawai’i Island. Donate here

Hawaiʻi Farmer’s Union: Your donation will help put relief directly into the hands of Hawaiʻi farmers, ranchers, and fishers who are facing damage, losses, and the unexpected costs of recovering from the storm. Donate here. To ask their network of service providers for assistance on your recovery needs, fill out a form here.  

KEY Project (*O‘ahu): Started a “Request for Kōkua” program allowing residents to request support from a network of agencies and service providers. Fill out this form to make a request. Follow their Instagram to stay up to date on their meal distribution and charging available for folks still without power.

Hawaiʻi Workers Center: A resource and education hub for Hawaiʻi’s working people, HWC is offering one-time direct financial assistance to those in need. Hawaiʻi Foodbank: Serves hungry families, including those affected by Tropical Storm Lala. Donate here.
