Virtual Tree Planting Program: Free Tree Drive on February 19

By Tanya Dreizin | Reading time: 2 minutes

Winter in Hawaiʻi is great for so many reasons - including tree planting. To take advantage of the cooler weather and wetter days, we are hosting our second Virtual Tree Planting event! Super volunteers and tree experts Randy Ching and Ed Mersino are hosting a free tree pick-up for plant enthusiasts on Oʻahu. Whether you have a community garden plot, yard, or balcony, we will have a variety of trees and plants from local nursery, Hui Kū Maoli Ola, that will thrive in your space.

Not only do you get a free tree, but our knowledgeable volunteers will be on hand to discuss the best tree for you, answer any questions you may have, and discuss how to care for your plant and help it thrive as we move into hotter and drier months. Here are some key details:

When: Saturday, February 19 2022 from 9 am - 1pm - trees/plants are first come first serve.
Where: Moanalua Middle School, 1289 Mahiole St., Honolulu HI 96819 (we will be set up in the parking lot)
Bring: A mask, yourself, friends and family!

Please use this link to add it to your calendar, to make sure you don’t miss out on a chance to pick up a free tree and learn more about how to care for your new plant! As an added bonus, anyone who comes to pick up a tree will be entered in a drawing to win some swag from Patagonia.

We started our Virtual Tree Planting program in 2021 as a way to get back outside, nurture (and be nurtured by) nature, and get trees in the ground. With the help of our volunteers and Hui Kū Maoli Ola, we are able to provide a variety of native trees and plants that best suit the conditions of your yard, garden, and even patio! Our Virtual Tree Planting program strives to provide access to free native trees and the knowledge you need to help your tree thrive. Right now we are limited to Oʻahu and we hope to expand to all communities of Oʻahu and then to our beloved neighbor islands. Help us grow our program by donating here.

We look forward to seeing you on February 19th!
