West Maui + Red Hill at CWRM - take action

The Hawaiʻi Commission on Water Resource Management will be hearing two important matters tomorrow, Tuesday, June 14 at 9am. Issues related to the Red Hill Bulk Fuel Storage Facility and the West Maui Water Management Area Designation will be heard and need your support. Please take a moment to submit quick testimony on both matters, sample testimony and instructions below:

Sample testimony

Red Hill Bulk Fuel Storage Facility

Aloha Chair Case and members of the Water Commission,

My name is ___ and I am a resident of ___. I am testifying today regarding agenda item C-2.

Seven months after the Navy poisoned thousands of Oʻahu residents, the Red Hill fuel tanks remain a massive threat to our water security. I kindly urge the Commission to uphold its obligation to the public trust and use its constitutional authority to expedite the defueling and decommissioning of the Red Hill Bulk Fuel Storage Facility. We cannot wait at least another two years to know our water is safe.

Sincerely,
[your name]

West Maui Water Management Designation Area

Aloha Chair Case and members of the Water Commission,

My name is ___ and I am a resident of ___. I am testifying today in regards to agenda item C-1.

I strongly support the designation of the Lahaina Aquifer Sector Area as a ground water and surface water management area. With the historic exploitation of Maui's water compounded by the already present and worsening impacts of the climate crisis, stronger management of West Maui's water resources is much needed to help secure our water security.

Sincerely,
