Arts March for Clean Water!

Arts for change and healing.

Print a postcard, make your own book, and deck out your stroller in this family-friendly art event honoring water. Join us at Honolulu Printmakers to learn about water contamination at Red Hill, express your feelings through art, and write to elected officials. Families will also have the opportunity to turn their stroller or wagon into a mini-parade float for our Arts March at 4:00 pm. The march route will begin at Honolulu Printmakers, circle the Capitol, and end at ʻIolani Palace. We will be walking to raise awareness about the risks of contamination to our aquifer, especially those posed by Red Hill. Special guest performance from local actors too!

Each family can decide what they would like their message to be – but we will be united in our need for clean water.

Why? The recent leak of toxic chemicals at the Navy’s Red Hill Bulk Fuel Storage Facility, in addition to past fuel leaks, has endangered our aquifer and threatened our access to fresh drinking water on the island. Military families have especially felt the impact of these leaks, with hundreds ill from exposure to contaminated water. The Arts March for Clean Water seeks to start conversations about clean water, draw attention to the issue, and help children navigate feelings of fear or confusion. It is important that we act now in urging the Navy to clean up the latest spill of PFAS chemicals and to drain the fuel from Red Hill as safely and quickly as possible.
